My name is TaraLynn, and I am a reference librarian at the Warren County library in New Jersey.
Ride to Read is a project that I am embarking on to raise much-needed funds for a new main library facility. The idea for the ride is to earn donations by bicycling 60 miles around the county to each branch of the Warren County Library and end at the new headquarters location.
100% of the proceeds will be used to purchase furnishings and equipment to make this building a true community center. Items for which we hope to raise money include comfy chairs, study carrels, tables, and more!
Why this is so important:
The Library Headquarters has been located at its current address in Belvidere since 1973. At that time, the space was deemed too small, and the building itself not laid out very well for a library, but it was a temporary location until a more suitable building could be found. That was in 1973! After all of these years, we are at last getting a new building that will be designed with library needs in mind!
Now that we will finally have these basic needs, we also want to make the library the kind of space that cultivates imagination, encourages education, and which brings members of the community together in a welcoming environment. To fill the building with more than just shelves and books requires a lot of funding, so I am hoping to raise $5,000 by September 19th. I know that's a tall order, but please help me reach my goal!
